Wagener, Paul
Paul Wagener studied art at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Juried exhibitions include Artists of Chicago and Vicinity Show, Art Institute of Chicago; National Drawing Show, Ringling Museum, Sarasota, Florida; Western Artists Annual, Denver Art Museum; National Figurative Art Exhibition, Lexington, KY, Art League; Mississippi Corridor Print and Drawing Competition, Davenport Art Museum; National Figurative Works Exhibition, West Palm Beach, Florida; National Drawing Exhibition, Springfield Art Association, Springfield, Illinois and numerous juried shows in Chicago and Atlanta.
One-artist shows include the R.H. Love Gallery, Chicago, Richard J Daley College, Chicago and the University of Wisconsin Baraboo Center.
"My art is a hunt for the human individual because as an artist the person is what holds me in thrall. I believe with Rico Lebrun that "Drawing should be, above all, not a thing of art, but a tool for understanding." I work only from living person, never from secondary sources such as photographs, because I enjoy the precious instress of the immediate presence and find that for myself it is reflected in a deeper level of response."
