Salcedo, Rebecca
Originally from the Pacific Northwest, Rebecca has made Atlanta home since 1999 and is a Resident Artist here at the Art Center at 4463 Cherokee St. She is a painter, illustrator and trompe l'oeil muralist, accustomed to working in just about every medium because of her experience as a commissioned artist. She is primarily a mixed media artist, but favorites include watercolor, acrylic, graphite and colored pencil.
Formally educated in Fine Art at Seattle University, she also studied French in France, and has been mentored in the art of Trompe L'oeil by the Premier Craftsman of France, Michel Nadai.
Artist Statement:
My Dad taught me how to draw perspective when I was ten, probably to keep me occupied outside while he was working in the office. The first thing I learned to draw in perspective were the steps I was sitting on.
I always drew, but I didn't really start painting until I was in college. My biggest influences have always been illustrators, particularly Norman Rockwell, Alphonse Mucha, Tolouse Lautrec and Albrecht Durer. Art Nouveau and Post Impressionism are my favorite movements. Viva Van Gogh!
