Robin Porter expresses her love of the sea through much of her art. A Seattle native, she was raised near Puget Sound where boats and rocky beaches were common sights. Her mediums include watercolor, oil, collage and most recently, pastel.

The influences of Robin's personal, academic, and professional backgrounds are visible in the themes her artwork depicts.

With a Political Science degree from the University of Washington and a master's in Conflict Resolution from Portland State University in Oregon, she has studied the concept of peace and seeks to convey a sense of peace through her work. Two of her paintings (e.g. A Cypriot Peace) and one collage are based on her travels to the politically divided island of Cyprus in the Mediterranean Sea.

Robin is a mediator with a journalism background. She's written for community newspapers, regional magazines and many other publications. Robin also volunteers at the Carter Center in Atlanta. A tenth of the proceeds from her artwork are donated to the Rosalynn Carter Fellowships for Mental Health Journalism, providing stipends to journalists from the US, Romania and South Africa to report on topics related to mental health or mental illnesses.

Though Robin has always enjoyed painting as a hobby, it wasn't until five years ago when a group of Woodstock artists began working together on a weekly basis, that she exclusively focused on her craft. This path of artistic growth led her to study pastel with Babá, a Gallery 4463 member artist, and oil painting with Georgia artist Tommy Akin.

Robin lives in Woodstock with her husband John and dog Mosey. They enjoy travel – sailing the Caribbean, tennis and bicycling. Robin continues to spend studio time with the Woodstock artist group, founded by fellow artist Nancy Bradley.
